Phrenology Head Ca 1870

Original LN FowlerPhrenology Head Ca 1870, 12 inches tall

How to distinguish an original Phrenology head as opposed to a reproduction .
1. It is Staffordshire pottery, you can see the inside on an original, it has a white glaze, the reproductions have a white porcelain body.
2 The reproductions are smaller and much less defined. Compare the neck and the eyes.
3 The original has small indentations dots in the body to aid the
decorators in the exact positioning of the transfers. The copies do not.
4 The original is much lighter in weight as the body is much thinner.
5. The base will show evidence of wear that you would expect with age.
6 There are more labels on an original than a reproduction
